Havanese Puppies - 5 weeks old

Since 5 weeks has passed I thought I'd post a few pictures. They are getting fluffy and FUN!

I started out trying to take pictures while they were playing and running around, but ALOT of those pictures turned out much like this one: (Casper started yawning as soon as I started to take the picture, so imagine trying to get pictures while they are romping around?)

Everytime the perfect picture opportunity presented itself, they would move or jump. Oh they are so much fun! (just have to say it again)~

Havanese Puppies for Sale - FYI

I have had many people contact me about our Havanese puppies for sale and think they can just send me money and get a puppy or have a puppy shipped to them. Folks, this is not how it works with us nor how it will work with any responsible breeder. Any breeder that cares about their puppies and breed for the love of Havanese will ask many, many questions. We care about the homes & environment that our fur-babies will be living in for the rest of their lives. We want them to have loving parents that will love them just as we do and willing to stay in contact with us.

If you contact me about one of our fur-babies, I will also ask you to fill out a 'puppy questionnaire' and then we will proceed from there.

There has been many days sitting with our Luna waiting for the puppies to be born. Feeling the babies kick inside our little momma's tummy. The 8+ hours of birthing. The many hours of sleeping on the couch in the living room by the puppies for the first week. The many hours spent making sure each little one is getting enough to eat. Alot of love and time has gone into our fur-babies and we only want the best for them.

Havanese Dog House Re-Design

Here is a picture of our new Havanese house re-design. We didn't take into account that Luna jumps into it from the corner, but live and learn. We aren't going to re-do it since it is a temporary set-up and we are in the process of weaning everyone now.

As you can see, the paper has been 'used'. Woohoo! I am so proud of my little angels!

Tonight I am going to replace the paper with 'puppy wee pads' though. That way they will be used to it in case their new family wants to use them and they will know it's not a toy to rip up.

They are also starting to cut teeth. Ouch!

If anyone wants information on how to build your own designer dog house, you can email me at selfcreativity@aol.com. Put 'Havanese' in the subject like so that I won't mistake it for spam.

Havanese Puppies - 4 Week Update

Four weeks have passed since our Havanese puppies were born. My how time flies when you are having fun!

After building the new puppy house, we are going to have to do a little changing and re-designing. I realized that with our current design, that the puppies were walking back and forth over the potty area. So what we really needed was the bed area and potty area to be in two different corners with space in between..

We are going to make the adjustments this weekend and I'll post pictures of the the new lay-out when we are finished.

Here's new 4 week pictures:

Toxic Plants

As puppies start exploring the 'bigger world', we all know they like to bite and chew on just about everything they come in contact with, including plants, bark, wood chips, grass, flowers, etc.

If you have just gotten a new puppy or planning on getting one, please take the time to inventory your indoor and outdoor plant environment and take the necessary measures to keep your puppy safe.

The ASPCA has a list of toxic plants that have been reported as having systemic effects on animals and/or intense effects on the gastrointestinal tract.

Our New Havanese House

Today we moved into a new house, complete with a bed room, potty room and a BIG play room. We got newie toys to play with too! Our human mommy saw this house on someone's website and liked it so much she got our friends, Jeffrey & Ryan to make us one. It's been tricky, but we are learning to walk on the floor.

After a few hours of exploring and playing, it was time to retire to our new bed-room.

I am your puppy

I am your Puppy, and I will love you until the end of the Earth, but please know a few things about me.

I am a Puppy, this means that my intelligence and capacity for learning are the same as an 8-month-old child. I am a Puppy; I will chew EVERYTHING I can get my teeth on. This is how I explore and learn about the world. Even HUMAN children put things in their mouths. It's up to you to guide me to what is mine to chew and what is not.

I am a Puppy; I cannot hold my bladder for longer than 1 - 2 hours. I cannot "feel" that I need to poop until it is actually beginning to come out. I cannot vocalize nor tell you that I need to go, and I cannot have "bladder and bowel control" until 6 - 9 months. Do not punish me if you have not let me out for 3 hours and I tinkle. It is your fault. As a Puppy, it is wise to remember that I NEED to go potty after: Eating, Sleeping, playing, Drinking and around every 2 - 3 hours in addition. If you want me to sleep through the night, then do not give me water after 8 p.m. A crate will help me learn to housebreak easier, and will avoid you being mad at me.

I am a Puppy, accidents WILL happen, please be patient with me! In time I will learn.

I am a Puppy, I like to play. I will run around, and chase imaginary monsters, and chase your feet and your toes and 'attack' you, and chase fuzz balls, other pets, and small kids. It is play; it's what I do. Do not be mad at me or expect me to be sedate, mellow and sleep all day. If my high energy level is too much for you, maybe you could consider an older rescue from a shelter or Rescue group. My play is beneficial, use your wisdom to guide me in my play with appropriate toys, and activities like chasing a rolling ball, or gentle tug games, or plenty of chew toys for me. If I nip you too hard, talk to me in "dog talk", by giving a loud YELP, I will usually get the message, as this is how dogs communicate with one another. If I get too rough, simply ignore me for a few moments, or put me in my crate with an appropriate chew toy.

I am a Puppy; hopefully you would not yell, hit, strike, kick or beat a 6-month-old human infant, so please do not do the same to me. I am delicate, and also very impressionable. If you treat me harshly now, I will grow up learning to fear being hit, spanked, kicked or beat. Instead, please guide me with encouragement and wisdom. For instance, if I am chewing something wrong, say, "No chew!" and hand me a toy I CAN chew. Better yet, pick up ANYTHING that you do not want me to get into. I can't tell the difference between your old sock and your new sock, or an old sneaker and your $200 Nikes.

I am a Puppy, and I am a creature with feelings and drives much like your own, but yet also very different. Although I am NOT a human in a dog suit, neither am I an unfeeling robot who can instantly obey your every whim. I truly DO want to please you, and be a part of your family, and your life. You got me (I hope) because you want a loving partner and companion, so do not relegate me to the backyard when I get bigger, do not judge me harshly but instead mold me with gentleness and guidelines and training into the kind of family member you want me to be here.

I am a Puppy and I am not perfect, and I know you are not perfect either. I love you anyway. So please, learn all you can about training, and puppy behaviors and caring for me from your Veterinarian, books on dog care and even researching on the computer! Learn about my particular breed and it's "characteristics", it will give you understanding and insight into WHY I do all the things I do. Please teach me with love, patience, the right way to behave and socialize me with training in a puppy class or obedience class, we will BOTH have a lot of fun together.

I am a Puppy and I want more than anything to love you, to be with you, and to please you. Won't you please take time to understand how I work? We are the same you and I, in that we both feel hunger, pain, thirst, discomfort, fear, but yet we are also very different and must work to understand one another's language, body signals, wants and needs. Some day I will be a handsome dog, hopefully one you can be proud of and one that you will love as much as I love you.

Love, Your Puppy

Are you ready for a puppy?

Are you longing to be greeted at the door with unconditional love and enthusiasm? Hear the pitter-patter of little puppy paws? With the right canine companion, you can have a relationship you will cherish forever.

Choosing the right dog for your home and lifestyle is more complicated than asking "How much is that doggy in the window? The one with the waggly tail." You've got to consider your schedule (puppies require a lot of time, attention and training), your house (is a Great Dane really the best choice for an apartment?) and your personality (are you high-strung or laid-back?). Once you've carefully considered all the angles and still feel confident regarding your decision to get a puppy, you can make an informed selection about the breed that suits you best.

Are you ready? Here are some questions to help you decide if you're really ready for all of the responsibilities of dog ownership:

Do I have enough time for a pet? Daily care includes affection, grooming, feeding, training and exercising.

Do I have adequate space and housing area for a dog?

Can I afford veterinary care, licensing, food, training and grooming costs? (This can run up to hundreds of dollars a year.)

What would I do with my dog when I go on vacation or have to travel for my job?

Am I willing to obey community laws concerning animals?

Am I willing to be patient in training and housebreaking?

Can I deal with my favorite shoes being mauled, my furniture being chewed and all of the messes and accidents pets have?

Are my children responsible enough to help care for the dog? Will they be gentle with it and treat it well?

What happens if I move? Am I willing to deal with the frustrations of finding Bowser-friendly housing?

Am I willing to make a commitment to this dog for its entire life? Have I ever made a commitment that spans 15 years or more?

If you answer no to any of the above questions, you might want to reconsider getting a canine pet and instead go with a goldfish or hamster.

Havanese Puppies 21 Days Old

All of the kiddos are beginning to walk, growl, & play. Such fun they are! Each one of them are developing their unique personalities and their coats are beginning to change a tad bit as well. A very unique characteristic of Havanese are that their colors can change up until they are around 2 years old. A white Havanese could change to have brown, black, cream color spots or any other variations of colors in their coats.
